Australian retailer sourcing organisation in need of closure of a loss-making sourcing office in Taipei
Challenge
The sourcing organisation of an Australian based retailer needs to close of a loss-making sourcing office in Taipei, ensuring all local legal procedures are followed and implemented and that staff receive all emoluments they are legally entitled to.

Solution
YourBoard connected legal, HR and sourcing experts (with relevant Taiwanese experience), with the senior management team in Hong Kong to advise the legal process in Taiwan and help them put together a timely plan for the closure.
Outcome
The closure was implemented and staff fully compensated, including the offer to move to the new office in Shanghai to ensure a continuity of service and the retaining of selected high calibre, experienced staff within the organisation. A number of key Taiwanese executives ac-cepted the offer to move and some are now part of the regional management team within the sourcing organisation. A serious last minute legal issue was averted (the original 1973 Taiwanese language owner-ship documents named the head of the Taiwan office as the owner and not the company(!)) – again YourBoard legal and HR experts rapidly reconvened with management to work out a solution –indicating to the individual that his original actions could still be prosecuted for fraud unless he agreed to ‘sell’ (transfer) the ownership to the company, which he eventually did.
